    July was a volatile month for the U.S. markets. The Dow Jones Industrial Average started the month with some big losses, even closing below 11,000 for the first time in two years on July 15th. But since then, the index has reclaimed some of the losses after a pair of strong rallies, fueled by declining oil price. For the month, the Dow rose a meager 0.25%, the NASDAQ rose 1.42% and the broader S&P 500 index declined just about 1%.

    Comparing to what happened to Chinese stocks listed on U. S. stock exchanges, the drop in major U. S. equity indexes is minor, though the Dow Jones Industrial Average did lose more than 10% in just one month (10.19%). During the same time period, the NASDAQ dropped 9.12% and the S&P declined 8.57% as jitters in the financial sector continued and there was no sign that the housing market has bottomed. In fact, the loss in June was the severest monthly loss since the Great Depression.

    China's Longtop Financial Technologies Ltd (LFT) shares soared 85% in their U.S. stock market debut on Wednesday. US investors continue to show the strong demand on the Chinese stocks. Recent Chinese IPOs have performed extremely well, with an average return of 72% from their IPO prices.     LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Qiao Xing Mobile Communications said second-quarter operating income dropped to 76.1 million yuan ($11.1 million) from 230.6 million yuan, with revenue falling to 383.7 million yuan from 844.1 million yuan. The Chinese mobile handset maker said shipments fell 46% to 566,000 units. Sales were negatively impacted by the earthquake that took place in Sichuan province in May, which caused a slowdown in consumption in the Chinese consumer market, as well a delay in the release of its new product, VEVA S60.     LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Qiao Xing Mobile Communications said fourth-quarter profit rose 3.2% to $19.6 million from the third quarter. Revenue fell 10.2% sequentially to $102.4 million. Handset shipments declined 24.8% to 862,000 from the third quarter but rose 22.4% from the year-ago quarter.

    NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Qiao Xing Universal Telephone Inc. said Wednesday it will need more time than previously estimated to prepare its annual report on Form 20-F for the fiscal year 2006. As Qiao Xing Mobile Communication Co., Ltd. , a consolidated subsidiary of XING, has recently become a U.S. listed company which publishes its own financial statements, extra work is required to coordinate between the different auditors, finance teams and audit committees, the company said. Qiao Xing said it will complete its filing of 2006 annual report on Form 20-F on or before July 15.
