    NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Laboratory Corporation of America said Thursday that third-quarter earnings were $112 million, or $1.00 a share, compared to $111 million, or 92 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. Revenue rose to $1.14 billion compared to $1.02 billion. Adjusted earnings per share were $1.10 compared to $1.07 a year ago. Analysts polled by FactSet Research estimated, on average, earnings per share of $1.12 and sales of $1.13 billion. For 2009 Laboratory Corp. sees earnings per share in the $5.00-$5.25 range and $4.57-$4.61 excluding items.

    BOSTON (MarketWatch) -- Laboratory Corp. of America Holdings early Thursday reported second-quarter net income of $104.2 million, or 92 cents a share, compared with $128.7 million, or $1.05 a share, for the same quarter in 2007. Excluding various charges, the company would have reported adjusted earnings of $1.24 a share versus $1.09. Revenue for the quarter climbed 10% to $1.15 billion. Shares for the quarter were reduced from 114 million, from 122 million in the 2007 period. The company said it now sees 2008 adjusted earnings per share of between $4.54 and $4.66.
