    (Mon, 17 Nov 2008 14:02:29 -0500)

    Steve Alexander submits:

Wall Street has its share of axioms. Two fairly well known ones are "the trend is your friend", and "winners keep winning". Both of these are applicable to momentum based investing, a field of technical analysis. However, the Magic Formula Investing screen is strictly a quality at low prices strategy, a decidedly value based approach.

However, we've applied alternate statistics to the MagicDiligence universe of stocks before. For the record, that's two Magic Formula Investing screens: the top 100 stocks over 50 million market cap, and the top 50 over 2 billion market cap. But we...

  • Two Stocks With No Debt and Low Price to Cash Flow

    (Fri, 14 Nov 2008 04:05:03 -0500)

    Stockerblog submits:

If you are looking for stocks that are 'safe,' the first thing that most investors, and traders, look at is how much debt the company has. The debt free get a lot of focus. One of the other metrics worth looking at are stocks with a low Price to Cash Flow ratio.

Why is cash flow more important than earnings or net income? It gives a more realistic idea about the amount of actual funds that are coming in to the company. WallStreetNewsNetwork.com has discovered seven debt free stocks with Price to Cash Flows below five...

Each week through the end of the year, Compete will be tracking which retail products are drawing the most online interest from shoppers. A look at the leading products from this past week suggest that while consumers’ budgets will be pinched this year, certain products, such as video game consoles will be as popular as ever.

Highlights for the Week of October 19-25

  • Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News

    (Wed, 29 Oct 2008 07:19:48 -0400)

    • Asia surges, then retreats. Asian stock markets erased most of their early gains Wednesday (see below) despite a huge Wall Street rally, with the exception of Japan's Nikkei which stormed to a 7.7% gain on hopes the Bank of Japan will halve its interest rate to 0.25% from 0.5% this week. "Investors are wary that we are going to see prices back down again," one broker said of the midday jitters. Bill CaraBill Cara submits:

      [Excerpted from Bill Cara's Week-in-Review]

We know that fear sells – even more so than greed. What is happening then is that the people’s emotions are being played by those who are in control of the capital markets. • Garmin: Navigating to Nowhere

      (Sun, 14 Sep 2008 03:15:49 -0400)

      Brian Griffin submits:

I am currently short Garmin (GRMN). I believe that while the current year's earnings/revenues may be achievable, the company is headed down the wrong path in the wrong industry.

Garmin trades at about 10x consensus FY08 expectations of $3.95. Many will argue that this is simply too cheap for a company with such promising growth prospects and that remains underpenetrated.
